i’ve never really liked don imus. his face is eerily raisin-like, he has an affinity for wearing horrendous looking hats, and most importantly howard stern hates him. all that being said i still disagree with this massive al sharpton outcry over imus calling the rutger’s girls basketball team a bunch of “nappy headed ho’s” try to imagine how differently things would have been had dave chappelle or chris rock made the exact same comments. go listen to a rap album where women are routinely referred to as far worse than “nappy headed ho’s.” the double standard given to certain words (slang or not) just grows so tiring after a while. a word has the same meaning, regardless of who says it, it has to.
things aren’t going that well for old america right now. a lot of smart people (who i partially agree with) argue that america (much like ray-bans, hooded sweatshirts, and peter bjorn and john) is over. one of the few bright spots remaining is our freedom of speech, so why mess around with it? as lame and irrelevant as don imus is he should be able to say whatever he wants, whenever he wants without having to answer to real filth like al sharpton. it is the same freedom of speech that enables me to say that some day when al sharpton is dead (hopefully of a painful and shameful death) i will show up to his grave and proudly urinate on it. the same goes for his partner and co-extortionist, the reverend jesse jackson.
